Sometime in April 2011, someone alerted me to the announcement that @libfestival was holding a mixtape contest for a chance to win a slot on their lineup. I’d been itching to go since my friends who’d attended in 2010 couldn’t stop talking about what an amazing time they’d had, so I decided to throw my hat in the ring.

With the sound of the DoLaB still unfamiliar to me, I sought out the guidance of my friend Megan, who I knew to be a connoisseur. One fateful evening, Megan introduced me to the magical musical multiverse that makes up the heartbeat of the so-called transformational festival scene: a vibe that has been my main sonic squeeze ever since.

I whipped together this little 37-minute romp in a couple days and of course I didn’t win, but then @sczookie surprised me with a ticket and I was overjoyed!

My first LiB will always hold a special place in my heart. Nothing like the experience of being a debaucherous post-kandi kid rave-child looking for something deeper than to be plopped into a candy shop re of west coast hippiedom.
