Cowboy Bebop has held a special place in my heart ever since high school, when a friend asked me to help arrange a CB show for our marching band’s halftime show in 2004. I’d never seen the show before, but Yoko Kanno’s score grabbed me immediately and I was obsessed. I love how the show seamlessly blends elements of western, science fiction, and noir elements with thematic through-lines of existentialism, loneliness, and battling one’s demons, all of which have had a tremendous impact on me as my life has progressed.
For this set, I chose a collection of tunes that are decidedly NOT Yoko Kanno-ish (apologies to the die-hards), but nevertheless have been intentionally sequenced to support the dramatic arc of four of my favorite episodes (at least in my mind). I hope y’all enjoy this wild romp of wackiness!
